Meet Our Team
Jacob developed his passion for international aid and the non profit sector growing up and serving with a missions organization. Working in the Navajo Nation, Skid Row in Los Angeles, and service trips throughout the US and the Caribbean, have shaped much of who he is today. Jacob studied non profit management at UW Madison, has held jobs in fundraising, music, and most recently youth leadership development and outdoor adventure in Colorado. Jacob is now working on Onwards full time.
Christina co-founded Onwards with her brother, Jacob. She shared a similar love for travel, especially after spending time throughout central America in a study abroad program. From microenterprise development with FoodRoots in Oregon, teaching in Honduras, receiving her Masters of Public Administration, and currently serving as the Development and Operations Manager at Milwaukee Riverkeepers, she brings a wealth of experience to the team.
Pippa is a writer and activist based in NYC. Her work has been featured in numerous media outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Independent, and on television. She is passionate about creating sustainable community development, while simultaneously transforming the tourism sector. Onwards was introduced to Pippa because of her piece, The Problem With Little White Girls and Boys: Why I Stopped Being a Voluntourist, which documented her views on tourism, travel, and her work in the DR with HIV+ children.
Elaine served as the Resident Director: Service Learning for the CIEE study abroad program in Santiago, Dominican Republic. She is a passionate advocate for sustainable and responsible change in international development and community capacity building. After living and working in the Dominican Republic for over a decade, her husband Marcos and their two children moved to Oregon where she now serves as the Director of Civic and Community Engagement for the University of Oregon.
Having grown up with Jacob since middle school (and a bandmate of their band Heavy Duty Judy), Sam has been involved with Onwards since the beginning. He currently aids Onwards in design, marketing, and as a creative sounding board. Sam has followed his dreams in the realm of media, design, and art, from a local web-development company, to positions with Walt Disney, Pixar, and currently as a technical director at Industrial Light & Magic, a division of Lucasfilm, in San Francisco.
Rob loves to travel and has a deep appreciation and respect for cultural diversity. He has participated in mission trips to Mexico, India and the Dominican Republic, is on the leadership team with Business As Mission (a networking group in Denver, CO), and has a passion for empowering entrepreneurs who need a hand up verses a hand out. His expertise includes a BA in Economics, a BS in Business Administration, and has 25 years of experience in various business development roles in Information Technology and Real Estate. He lives in Colorado with his wife and 3 awesome kids.
