Dominican Republic

Onwards’ first trip package takes you into the authentic Dominican Republic. With an eco lodge, home-stay, and lively beach town, you will support community-based tourism efforts developed to alleviate poverty, benefit local communities, and to engage you with Dominican culture. This experience includes jumping off 27 waterfalls, visiting amber, coffee, and cacao plantations, meeting local artisans and restaurants, taking meringue (dance) lessons, sponsoring a field trip with a local school, all capped off with a stay in the beach town of Cabarete. Not only will this not be your typical sun and sand vacation, but your dollars will support community development.

Authentic Adventures

Itinerary
  • Tubagua - Community Experiences - 3 Nights

Be some of the first internationals to experience these local, community-based tourism projects in the Puerto Plata region. Spend each day adventuring, learning, eating, dancing, and making new local friends in this excursion planned portion of the trip.

  • Community Stay - 1 Night

Travel along the “Ruta Panoramica,” a project that will take you through an Amber mine, to see the production of coffee from start to finish, and to visit fruit stands to satisfy even on the hottest of days. Then, get the “study abroad” type experience staying in a home or small local bed and breakfast. Meet and engage with a Dominican family in the best immersion style possible. Share a meal, stories, learn some Spanish too, and have a travel experience unlike anything you will find behind resort walls. (Home-stay is optional, lodging at Tubagua is available)

  • Beach stay - Cabarete - 3 Nights

After the action packed portion of your trip, enjoy your vacation however you wish in a global favorite gem, the beach town of Cabarete. With long beaches to walk (or run) to your heart’s desire, surfing at Playa Encuentro, kite-surfing (the kite surfing capital of the world), a string of local and international restaurants, and a buzzing night life, there truly is anything and everything you could want out of a beach town in Cabarete. Set up further excursions, explore yourself, or spend some well deserved beach time for the rest of your trip.
